Bruno Berner guided his F.C. Tuggen side to a 2-1 win over SC Brühl in the Swiss 1. Liga Promotion last weekend – his first win since taking charge of the club’s first team.
In what was Berner’s first home fixture of 2017, the game’s opening goal came in the 21st minute courtesy of forward Anes Zverotic, allowing F.C. Tuggen a 1-0 lead going into the half-time break. Immediately pushing on at the start of the second period, the home side were awarded a penalty on the hour mark; however, the resulting spot-kick was saved by Brühl’s goalkeeper.
F.C. Tuggen’s second eventually came on the 74th minute through Jusuf Shala, ensuring that both of the team’s strikers found themselves on the scoresheet. Unfortunately for Tuggen, Brühl pulled a goal back deep into second-half stoppage time, however that didn’t take away from what was an impressive performance and valuable win for Berner’s side.
“Following the 1-0 defeat to Old Boys, I wanted to change things slightly,” said Berner after the game’s final whistle.
“We lined up 4-4-2 and had five attacking players on the pitch. It was very important to me that we attacked from the word go. I felt that we dominated the first half. We created four or five changes and were able to score a goal, which was pleasing. I told the boys at half-time that we needed a second goal to win the game and I was very happy with the way the team came out for the second half. We were unlucky not to take the lead from the penalty, but despite the disappointment of seeing the penalty saved, the team continued to press and got the goal we needed.
“I’ll have to wait for my first clean sheet as manager, but I thought we thoroughly deserved to win the match from the first minute. It was a very good team performance and an excellent reaction to our defeat the week before. We will now look to get a full week’s training under our belts ready for our next game, which is away to Stade Nyonnais.”
F.C. Tuggen travel to Stade Nyonnais on Saturday 25 March.
