Fresh from being named manager of 1. Liga Promotion side F.C. Tuggen, Bruno Berner swapped the side-lines for the television studio earlier this week as he joined the panel on Teleclub Sport’s Extratime.
Alongside host Juri Christen and fellow former Swiss international Georges Bregy, Bruno took time out from coaching to discuss a number of footballing topics, commencing with a reflection on Switzerland’s 2-0 victory over the Faroe Islands in World Cup qualifying. In goal for the Faroe Islands was goalkeeper Gunnar Nielson, a man that Berner played alongside at Blackburn Rovers during the 2007/08 season.
Keeping with Switzerland, Bruno and the panel debated which national team was the best ever to date, in addition to speculating what is possible with the current group of players and what could be expected of the side in 2017.
The unanimous view was that the Swiss national side posseses a lot of depth, with an abundance of young players, meaning that the side has their best years ahead of them.
Berner and co. also discussed the struggles of the Austria national side, managed by Swiss Marcel Koller, a man that Bruno played under at Grasshoppers Club Zurich in 2001/02.
