Former Swiss international full-back Bruno Berner returned to Teleclub Sport 1’s Extratime this week to discuss a host of footballing topics from across Europe.
Off the back of recent appearances on the show, Berner once again joined Vania Spescha on air, talking about the latest from the Swiss Super League – including FC Zurich’s battle against relegation with two games remaining in the league season; first away to FC Sion before finishing the campaign at home to FC Vaduz. Heading into the final two fixtures, FC Zurich – where Bruno served as a coach with the club’s academy – are one point behind ninth-placed Lugano.
Another of Berner’s former clubs, Leicester City, are dominating headlines across the world. Bruno spent some time discussing the Foxes’ incredible season, as well as the lack of appearances made by Swiss international Gökhan Inler – and the impact that could have on the national side.
Other topics discussed included Manchester City pipping rivals Manchester United to the final Champions League spot in the English Premier League, the goalscoring form of Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain in Serie A, speculation over the next destination for Paris Saint-Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, VfB Stuttgart’s relegation to 2. Bundesliga after 39 years in the German top flight and Luis Suarez’s impact on Barcelona, as the Catalan giants lifted yet another La Liga title.
