With the new football season kicking off across the continent, Bruno Berner was back in front of the camera discussing the beautiful game as a pundit on Teleclub Sport 1’s Extratime in his native Switzerland.
Hosted by Annette Fetscherin, the show focused on the Swiss national squad ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Portugal at FC Basel’s St. Jakob-Park; a game that Switzerland would win 2-0 thanks to goals from Breel Embolo and Admir Mehmedi.
On Extratime, it was Embolo’s inclusion that created the opening talking point, as Bruno discussed who should start in place of Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri, with the Schalke winger competing against Basel’s Renato Steffen for a place in the Swiss starting eleven.
Bruno also discussed the impact that Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence would have on opponents Portugal, who were also missing Renato Sanches for the trip to Switzerland.
Other matters talked about included the lessons that Switzerland could learn from their Euro 2016 campaign, and discussions as to why a number of chances in front of goal for the national side haven’t been taken.
