Important Win for Berner’s FC Tuggen

Bruno Berner’s FC Tuggen side is now just two points off Swiss Promotion League safety with five matches to play, thanks to a huge 1-0 win over SC Cham on Saturday (22 April) afternoon.

Victory sets up a mouth-watering home encounter against Köniz on Saturday 29 April.

“We started the game in dynamic fashion, immediately gaining a lot of possession,” said Berner.

“At the beginning, there appeared to be a lot of one-on-one match-ups across the pitch and we were indebted to our goalkeeper Fabien Fellmann, who pulled off two brilliant saves in the early stages of the game which kept us in the game.”

FC Tuggen thought they had taken the lead through a free-kick midway through the first half, only to see the finish disallowed for offside. However, with ten minutes of the first half remaining, Tuggen grabbed the only goal of the match. A quick throw-in on the right found Vilson Doda, who cut inside before playing the ball to Marsel Stevic. Stevic then made no mistake with his effort, which he hit first time from 18 yards out to give Berner’s side a 1-0 lead.

“We kept pushing forward and it was a fantastic goal to open the scoring,” added the former Swiss international full-back.

“I felt that it could have actually been 2-2 or 3-3 at half-time, it was that sort of game; however, I was pleased to go into the break 1-0 up. We dominated the whole second half and missed a few chances in front of goal.

“Our back five were superb in the second half and deserve great credit for keeping a second clean sheet during my time as manager of the club. The gap has now been closed to two points and there is still a lot to play for.”
